Background
The human CACNA1B gene encodes the pore-forming subunit of Cav2.2, the voltage-gated N-type calcium channel. CACNB3 and CACNA2D1 encode auxiliary subunits that modulate gating and pharmacological properties. Cav2.2 channels expressed in CNS neurons are therapeutic targets in pain.
