  • Time course of nifedipine block of Cav1.2 channels. Test pulse current amplitude (inset, current traces) is plotted as a function of time during repetitive stimulation (+10 mV, from ‑80 mV holding potential, at 10 second intervals). Currents recorded in conventional patch clamp, whole-cell mode.

Quick Overview

Human Cav1.2/b2/a2d1 ion channel-expressing, division-arrested cells.

Background

The human CACNA1C gene encodes the pore-forming subunit of voltage-gated L-type Ca2+ channels. Co-expession with the b2 and a2d1 auxiliary subunits recapitulates function in heterologous expression (CHO cells). Cav1.2 channels, widely distributed in cardiac and smooth muscle, and in neurons, are therapeutic targets in cardiovascular and neurological diseases.
