Background
The human P2RX3 gene encodes P2X3, an ionotropic ATP receptor that functions as an ATP-activated cation channel expressed in spinal cord and sensory neurons. P2X3 receptors are therapeutic targets in treatment of neuropathic and inflammatory pain, inflammatory bowel disease, urinary incontinence, and cough.
