Background
The human SCNN1A, B and G genes encode the heteromeric ENaC channel, a constitutively active, amiloride-sensitive Na+-selective ion channel. ENaC expressed in kidney and colon is a therapeutic target in hypertension, congestive heart disease and inflammatory bowel disease.
