Background
The human CACNA1C gene encodes the pore-forming subunit of voltage-gated L-type Ca2+ channels. Co-expression with the β2 and α2δ1 auxiliary subunits recapitulates function in heterologous expression (CHO cells). Cav1.2 channels, widely distributed in cardiac and smooth muscle, and in neurons, are therapeutic targets in cardiovascular and neurological diseases.
