Background
The human ACCN1 gene encodes the pore-forming subunit of ASIC2a, a proton-activated, Na+-permeable channel. ASIC2a channels widely expressed in sensory neurons of the peripheral and central nervous systems are therapeutic targets in pain and neurodegenerative diseases.
