  • cAMP dose-response for NDP-α-MSH stimulation of MC1 melanocortin receptor (MC1R) expressing CHO-K1 Cells compared to untransfected host CHO-K1 cells. CHO-K1 cells that stably express the MC1R receptor (green circles) or host CHO-K1 cells (black triangles) were stimulated with the indicated concentrations of with NDP-α-MSH with 0.5 mM IBMX for 20 min at 37°C. Intracellular cAMP was assayed using the HitHunter Kit (DiscoverRX). Data represent the average +/- standard deviation of triplicate determinations.

Quick Overview

Human MC1 Receptor-expressing GPCR (G protein-coupled receptor) stable, replicating cell line.

Background

The melanocortin 1 receptor is one of the key proteins in regulating hair and skin color. A member of the family of G-protein-coupled receptors, it functions at the surface of pigment producing cells (called melanocytes). After activation by MSH, the MC1 receptor is coupled to Gs signal pathway and is involved in many physical and pathological processes including skin pigmentation, autoimmune disease, inflammation and melanoma.
