Background
The human P2Y family of metabotropic receptors include eight accepted members, including P2Y1,2,4,6,11,12,13,14. P2Y2,4,11 are activated mainly by nucleoside triphosphates whereas P2Y1,6,12,13 are activated by nucleoside diphosphates. P2Y6 couples preferentially to Gq/11 and is expressed in a variety of tissues including endothelia, smooth muscle, heart, gall-bladder, retina, placenta, spleen.
