  • Calcium dose-response for a-Methylserotonin maleate salt stimulation of h5HT2B Serotonin EZCells™ compared to non-irradiated cells. CHO-K1 cells that stably express the h5HT2B Serotonin receptor (black triangles) or similar cells that were irradiated (green squares) were loaded with Fluo-4 NW, then stimulated with the indicated concentrations of a-Methylserotonin maleate salt. The resulting increase in intracellular calcium was measured on a FlexStation fluorescent plate reader. Data points represent the average +/- standard deviation of triplicate determinations.

Quick Overview

Human 5HT2B Serotonin Receptor-expressing GPCR (G protein-coupled receptor) division-arrested cells.

Background

Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) exerts its many physiological effects through 13 distinct receptor subtypes in humans. These subtypes fall into seven structurally-defined classes (5-HT1 to 5-HT7). 5-HT2b receptors are expressed in the liver, kidney, lung, heart, pancreas, spleen, brain, spinal cord, gastrointestinal tract, placenta, and coronary and pulmonary arteries. It has also been reported in embryonic mouse heart. This receptor has been used as a target for developing drugs to treat migraine, anxiety, and irritable bowel syndrome.
