Background
Alpha-1 adrenergic receptors are widely distributed and mediate a variety of functions including smooth muscle contraction, cardiac stimulation, cellular proliferation, apoptosis and activation of hepatic gluconeogenesis and clycogenolysis. Three distinct alpha-1 adrenergic receptors have been identified and are known as alpha-1a, alpha-1b, and alpha-1c receptors.
